The Sierra RS500 Cosworth Was Successful On Track All Over The World

The competitive versions of the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth

featured a more race-focused tuning and

produced 470 horsepower. The engine is so powerful that it can produce up to

1,000 horsepower. That really is a lot of power for a 2.0-liter inline four.

Cosworth knows a thing or two about engine building.

The Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth's maiden race occurred midway

through the 1987 World Touring Car Championship somewhere

at iconic Spa-Francorchamps. The two RS500s demonstrated

their skill by qualifying first and second, but they were unable

to finish the race. They maintained their

pole position for the remainder of the year, winning more than

for the desert might not seem all that unlikely, especially since Porsche has recently shown their Baja version of the 911.
